What Is a Magnetic Pen?

The Magnetic Pen is a portable tool used for quick preliminary checks of magnetic minerals in rock, ore and mineral samples. It is designed in a compact pen-style form with a small magnet positioned at the tip.

The LT-A9800 Magnetic Pen also incorporates a spring-wire clip. When the operator holds the pen from this clip and brings the magnetic tip close to a sample, magnetic attraction causes the pen tip to move toward responsive minerals.

This simple working principle makes the tool useful during geological field inspections and preliminary laboratory sample classification.

Quick Magnetic Mineral Detection

Magnetic behaviour can provide useful information during initial mineral examination.

The operator first cleans loose dust from the sample surface. The magnetic tip is then brought close to different areas of the specimen. If the material contains sufficiently magnetic minerals, an attraction can be observed.
