Alkali Aggregate Reaction Bath is designed for controlled curing of 25 × 25 × 285 mm mortar bar specimens used in alkali-silica reaction (ASR) testing. Specimens can be maintained in NaOH or other specified solutions under accurately controlled temperature conditions. Digital temperature control, stainless steel construction and 36 or 2 × 36 specimen capacity options provide a reliable solution for routine aggregate reactivity testing.

What Is an Alkali Aggregate Reaction Bath?
The Alkali Aggregate Reaction Bath is designed for conditioning mortar bar specimens used to evaluate the potential alkali-silica reactivity of aggregates. The bath maintains specimens in NaOH or another specified solution at a controlled temperature throughout the required test period.
The system is particularly suitable for 25 × 25 × 285 mm mortar bars. Stable temperature conditions are important because small variations can affect expansion development and the repeatability of ASR measurements. Liya’s system provides digital temperature adjustment from ambient conditions up to 100 °C with 0.1 °C control resolution.
Digital Temperature Control
The operator sets the required temperature through the digital control unit. An external PT100 temperature sensor can also be positioned in the bath to monitor the actual liquid temperature independently.
This arrangement helps laboratories maintain consistent conditioning conditions during long-duration ASR testing. It also makes it easier to verify that the bath temperature remains within the required test limits.
36 and 72 Specimen Capacity Options
The product family includes two capacity configurations.
The LT-A0086 accommodates 36 mortar bar specimens. For laboratories with higher testing volumes, the LT-A0085 configuration provides 2 × 36 specimen capacity, allowing up to 72 specimens to be conditioned.
Special polyamide racks keep the specimens in a vertical position and prevent direct contact between adjacent mortar bars.
Stainless Steel Construction
The bath is manufactured from stainless steel for resistance to water, elevated temperature and alkaline test solutions. A sealed tempered-glass cover reduces heat and liquid loss while allowing the operator to inspect the specimens.
An electronic water-level monitoring system provides an alarm when the bath level becomes too low. The wheeled construction also makes repositioning within the laboratory easier.
ASR Mortar Bar Testing
In accelerated mortar bar testing, specimens are prepared and their initial length is measured before exposure to the alkaline solution. Under ASTM C1260, mortar bars are conditioned using an accelerated procedure involving elevated temperature and 1 N NaOH solution. Length changes are then monitored over the specified test period.
The Length Comparator, analog or digital dial indicator, steel inserts and 305 mm reference rod provide the supporting equipment required for precise dimensional measurements.
