The Centrifuge Extractor determines the soluble binder content of bituminous mixtures by solvent extraction. Its adjustable high-speed rotation separates the bitumen-solvent solution from aggregate and mineral particles, supporting accurate asphalt mixture quality control.

What Is a Centrifuge Extractor?
The Centrifuge Extractor is used to determine the soluble binder content of bituminous mixtures. A suitable solvent dissolves the bitumen from the aggregate surface. High-speed centrifugal rotation then separates the binder-solvent solution from the remaining mineral material.
Binder content directly affects asphalt mixture quality and compliance with the target mix design. Therefore, asphalt laboratories regularly verify binder percentages during production and quality control.
Liya Test offers the system in 1500 g and 3000 g capacity versions, both with adjustable speeds up to 3600 rpm.
Adjustable High-Speed Operation
The rotational speed can be adjusted continuously between 0 and 3600 rpm. This allows the operator to select suitable operating conditions according to sample quantity and extraction requirements.
The AC drive provides controlled acceleration and braking. The centrifuge can automatically increase speed up to the selected value and stop within approximately 10–15 seconds after operation.
Stable speed control supports repeatable extraction conditions between consecutive asphalt samples.
Bitumen Extraction Process
The operator places the prepared asphalt sample inside the extractor bowl. A suitable solvent is then added to dissolve the bituminous binder from the aggregate particles.
When the rotor starts, centrifugal force drives the binder-solvent solution through the filter medium and out of the bowl. The filter paper helps retain fine mineral particles while allowing the extracted solution to pass.
After extraction, the remaining aggregate can be dried and weighed. Where permitted by the applicable procedure, recovered aggregate can also be used for subsequent particle size analysis.
1500 and 3000 g Capacity Options
The LT-AS0004 provides a sample capacity of 1500 g, making it suitable for routine laboratory quality control.
The larger LT-AS0005 offers a 3000 g capacity for laboratories requiring larger sample quantities. Both models share the same external dimensions of 65 × 45 × 55 cm and a weight of approximately 50 kg.
Each model is supplied with a capacity-matched bowl and cover.
Precision Bowl and Sealed Cover
The extractor uses a precision-machined removable rotor bowl housed inside a robust enclosure. This construction supports stable rotation at high speeds.
The cover incorporates a sealing gasket to help reduce leakage during extraction. The control panel provides simple start/stop operation together with speed adjustment.
Filter Papers and Accessories
Dedicated filter papers are available for both extractor capacities. The LT-AS0004/1 filter papers are intended for the 1500 g model, while LT-AS0005/1 is used with the 3000 g unit.
Replacement bowls and covers are also available separately as LT-AS0004/2 and LT-AS0005/2.
Binder Extraction According to Standards
The Centrifuge Extractor supports quantitative binder extraction procedures associated with EN 12697-1, ASTM D2172/D2172M and AASHTO T164 Method A. Liya Test also lists EN 13108 for this product family.
