Cleveland Open Cup Flash and Fire Point Tester
STANDART: EN 22592, ASTM D92
LT-AS0105 Cleveland Open Cup Flash and Fire Point Tester
LT-AS0105/1 Thermometer
LT-AS0105/2 Brass Test Cup
The Cleveland Open Cup Flash and Fire Point Tester determines the flash and fire points of petroleum products using the Cleveland open cup method. Controlled heating and a test flame allow laboratories to evaluate the thermal behaviour and flammability characteristics of suitable samples.
- Controlled heating: The heating system gradually increases the sample temperature according to the test procedure.
- Cleveland open cup method: Designed for flash and fire point determination using an open test cup.
- Controlled test flame: The gas or LPG flame unit applies the test flame at specified intervals.
- Brass test cup: Provides a durable and thermally stable container for the sample.
- Temperature monitoring: The dedicated thermometer allows continuous observation of sample temperature.
- Complete test configuration: Supplied with the main unit, thermometer and brass Cleveland cup.
- Compact design: External dimensions are approximately 25 × 30 × 25 cm.
- Laboratory use: Suitable for petroleum, bitumen, quality control and research laboratories.
- Standards compliance: Supports testing according to EN 22592 and ASTM D92. Liya Test lists the same standards for LT-AS0105.

What Is a Cleveland Open Cup Flash and Fire Point Tester?
The Cleveland Open Cup Flash and Fire Point Tester determines the flash and fire points of petroleum products under controlled laboratory conditions. The system follows the Cleveland open cup method and helps laboratories evaluate the thermal behaviour of suitable petroleum and bituminous materials.
The flash point indicates the temperature at which vapours above the sample can ignite momentarily when exposed to a test flame. The fire point represents the temperature at which combustion continues. Therefore, both values provide useful information for product characterisation and safety assessment.
ASTM D92 covers determination of flash and fire points using manual or automatic Cleveland open cup apparatus.
Cleveland Open Cup Test Method
The operator pours the prepared sample into the brass test cup. The heating system then gradually increases the sample temperature under controlled conditions.
During heating, the test flame is passed across the surface at specified intervals. The operator monitors the sample until the flash point is observed. Heating then continues when fire point determination is required.
ASTM D92 is intended for petroleum products tested using the Cleveland open cup method and defines flash point as an important indicator of the material’s tendency to form a flammable vapour-air mixture under controlled conditions.
Controlled Heating and Test Flame
The integrated heater increases the sample temperature progressively. Controlled heating helps maintain consistent test conditions and supports repeatable measurements.
The ignition unit can operate with gas or liquefied petroleum gas. The test flame is applied according to the selected procedure, allowing the operator to observe the sample response at increasing temperatures.
Accurate Temperature Monitoring
A dedicated thermometer continuously monitors the sample temperature during the test. This allows the operator to identify the temperature corresponding to the flash and fire events.
Clear temperature observation is important because the reported result directly depends on the temperature at the moment of ignition.
Compact Laboratory Design
The LT-AS0105 has external dimensions of approximately 25 × 30 × 25 cm and weighs about 11 kg. Its compact structure allows convenient installation on a laboratory bench.
The unit operates with a 220 V, 50–60 Hz, single-phase electrical supply. The standard configuration also includes the thermometer and brass Cleveland test cup.
Laboratory Applications
The Cleveland Open Cup Flash and Fire Point Tester is suitable for petroleum laboratories, bitumen testing facilities, universities, research centres and quality control laboratories.
It can be used to evaluate petroleum products where the selected standard and material specification require Cleveland open cup testing.
Testing According to EN 22592 and ASTM D92
The LT-AS0105 Cleveland Open Cup Flash and Fire Point Tester supports testing according to EN 22592 and ASTM D92. Liya Test currently lists both standards for this product.
ASTM D92 specifically covers flash and fire point determination using the Cleveland open cup apparatus.
Overall, the system combines controlled heating, reliable flame application and compact laboratory construction. Therefore, laboratories can determine the flash and fire points of suitable petroleum products under controlled and repeatable conditions.
