STANDART: BS 812:117, BS 1377:3

LT-A0047/3 Quantab Chloride Titrator | Type 1175

LT-A0047/4 Quantab Chloride Titrator | Type 1176

    PRODUCT DETAILS

Quantab Chloride Titrator is a rapid test method used to determine water-soluble chloride concentrations in fine aggregate, soil and aqueous samples. Disposable titration strips provide a practical alternative for quick field and laboratory screening. Two measurement ranges, Type 1175 and Type 1176, allow users to select the appropriate strip according to the expected chloride concentration.

    • Rapid Chloride Testing: Provides quick quantitative chloride measurements without complex laboratory equipment.
    • Type 1175 – Low Range: Measures 30–600 mg/L Cl⁻.
    • Type 1175 NaCl Range: Suitable for approximately 0.005–0.1% NaCl.
    • Type 1176 – High Range: Measures 300–6000 mg/L Cl⁻.
    • Type 1176 NaCl Range: Suitable for approximately 0.05–1.0% NaCl.
    • Simple Test Procedure: Dip the strip into the prepared sample and evaluate the developed scale reading.
    • Field and Laboratory Use: Requires no electrical power or complex instrumentation.
    • Disposable Test Strips: Minimises cleaning and preparation between measurements.
    • 40 Tests per Pack: Both measurement ranges are supplied in packs of 40 strips.
    • Standards Reference: BS 812-117 and BS 1377-3 are listed for the product.

    Description

What Is a Quantab Chloride Titrator?

The Quantab Chloride Titrator is a disposable test-strip system designed for rapid quantitative determination of chloride concentration. It is suitable for screening prepared extracts from fine aggregates, soils and other aqueous samples where chloride content needs to be checked quickly.

Unlike conventional laboratory titration, the method does not require burettes, electrical instruments or extensive preparation. The user immerses the strip into the prepared liquid sample. The sample rises through the strip and produces a measurable reaction. The resulting reading is then interpreted using the scale supplied with the test system.

This makes the method particularly useful for field testing, preliminary screening and routine quality-control checks. Hach describes QuanTab chloride strips as a quick quantitative method suitable for both field and laboratory applications.

    Type 1175 Low-Range Chloride Testing

Type 1175 is intended for samples containing relatively low chloride concentrations.

Its measurement range is 30–600 mg/L Cl⁻. The corresponding sodium chloride range is approximately 0.005–0.1% NaCl.

This option is suitable when small differences in chloride concentration need to be identified. Each package contains 40 disposable test strips. Hach currently publishes the same 30–600 mg/L Cl⁻ measurement range for its low-range QuanTab chloride strips.

    Type 1176 High-Range Chloride Testing

Type 1176 is intended for samples with higher chloride concentrations.

The working range is 300–6000 mg/L Cl⁻, corresponding to approximately 0.05–1.0% NaCl. This wider range allows samples with substantially higher chloride levels to be tested without using the low-range strip outside its intended measurement interval.

The high-range version is also supplied in packs of 40 test strips.

    Simple Field and Laboratory Procedure

The prepared liquid sample is placed in a clean container. The appropriate Quantab strip is then inserted into the solution according to the test instructions.

After the reaction has developed, the user reads the result from the calibrated scale. The selected conversion information is then used to determine chloride concentration.

Because the strips are disposable, there is little equipment to clean after each measurement. This feature is useful when several samples need to be screened during the same working day.

Chloride Testing of Aggregates and Soils

Chloride determination is important in construction-material testing because soluble chlorides can influence the suitability of aggregates and soils for certain engineering applications.

BS 812-117:1988 specifically covered determination of water-soluble chloride salts in aggregates. However, this standard has been withdrawn and was superseded by the EN 1744-1 series.

For soils, the current BS 1377-3:2018+A1:2021 includes procedures for determining both water-soluble and acid-soluble chloride content.

The Quantab Chloride Titrator therefore provides a compact and rapid screening solution for chloride measurements where fast field or laboratory evaluation is required.
