Rock Compression Testing Machine for Intact Rock Cores
The Rock Compression Testing Machine provides controlled axial loading for the mechanical testing of intact rock core specimens. The LT-R0060 model offers 600 kN load capacity and combines a rigid loading frame with an automatic hydraulic power unit and digital control system. Therefore, rock mechanics laboratories can perform compression tests under stable and repeatable conditions.
600 kN Automatic Loading System
The rigid load frame maintains specimen alignment during high-force testing. Hardened compression platens transfer the load to the rock core. In addition, the upper platen accommodates small alignment differences between the specimen surfaces.
The hydraulic system controls the applied force throughout the test. First, the machine approaches the specimen rapidly. After contact, the system switches to the selected test rate. It then increases the load until the programmed test condition or specimen failure occurs.
This automatic sequence reduces manual intervention. As a result, laboratories can achieve more consistent loading conditions between different specimens.
Uniaxial Rock Compression Testing
For a uniaxial test, the operator places the prepared rock core between the compression platens. The machine then applies axial force without additional lateral confinement.
The test determines the compressive behaviour of intact rock. ASTM D7012-23 Method C covers uniaxial compressive strength, while Method D includes deformation measurements for parameters such as Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio.
Accurate specimen preparation remains important. Flat and parallel end surfaces help distribute the test load evenly across the rock core.
Triaxial Testing with a Hoek Cell
The system can also support triaxial applications when equipped with a suitable Hoek Cell and confining-pressure unit. The Hoek Cell applies lateral pressure around the specimen while the compression machine provides axial load.
This arrangement allows laboratories to study rock behaviour under different stress states. According to ASTM D7012-23, Methods A and B cover triaxial compression testing of intact rock cores under different confining pressures.
Digital Control and Data Recording
The digital control unit monitors load values throughout the test. Operators can follow the test progress and view load-time information in real time.
Computer software stores specimen data, test results and graphs. Users can reopen previous tests and prepare reports without manually transferring measurement values.
Safe and Repeatable Rock Testing
Pressure protection, travel limits and emergency-stop controls support safe laboratory operation. Different distance pieces also allow the working space to adapt to various specimen dimensions.
As a result, the Rock Compression Testing Machine combines 600 kN capacity, automatic hydraulic loading and digital data management in one professional rock-testing system.
