    Description

What Is a Clay Abrasion Tester?

The Clay Abrasion Tester is designed to determine the abrasive characteristics of mineral raw materials such as clay, calcite, sepiolite and talc. These materials are commonly used as fillers or raw materials in industries including paper, paint, ink and pigment production.

The LT-S0600 Clay Abrasion Tester operates according to a principle similar to the Voith Allis Valley abrasion testing system. A prepared mineral suspension is circulated continuously over a brass abrasion wire while a reciprocating mechanism applies controlled mechanical movement.

    Controlled 6000-Revolution Test Cycle

The abrasion mechanism operates at approximately 75–80 rpm.

The official product description defines forward and backward movement as one operating cycle and states that the equipment can operate continuously for approximately two hours or 6000 revolutions.

The control system can automatically stop the device after the selected revolution value is reached. This helps laboratories apply similar mechanical conditions to different mineral samples.

    3.5 L Suspension Tank

The unit includes a 3.5 litre suspension tank manufactured from corrosion- and wear-resistant material.

During operation, the mineral suspension remains in continuous circulation. A peristaltic pump transfers the suspension from the tank to the abrasion-wire section.

The circulation capacity is approximately 190 L/h, equivalent to around 50 gal/h according to the published product information.

    Brass Abrasion Wire System

The abrasion section contains a stainless steel perforated support plate.

A brass wire is positioned above this support and secured using a locking arrangement. During the experiment, the circulating mineral suspension and mechanical motion produce wear on the brass test medium.

The standard test wire has an opening size of approximately 210 µm and dimensions of 22.4 × 8.7 cm. Liya Test states that the machine is supplied with a pack of 1000 brass wires.

    Mineral Raw Material Applications

The Clay Abrasion Tester can be used for materials such as clay, calcite, sepiolite and talc.

Abrasion behaviour is particularly important when these materials are processed as fillers or raw materials. More abrasive minerals can influence wear on pumps, pipelines, mills and other processing equipment.

Therefore, abrasion testing helps laboratories compare mineral samples before further industrial processing.

    TS 10521 Test Support

Liya Test lists TS 10521 and TS10521-T1 for the LT-S0600 Clay Abrasion Tester. The same standards are also cited by other Turkish manufacturers for Voith Allis Valley-type clay abrasion testing.

A published MTA study also describes abrasion testing at 6000 revolutions according to TS 10521 using Voith Allis Valley laboratory equipment, which is consistent with the working principle described for this device.

Overall, the LT-S0600 Clay Abrasion Tester combines controlled reciprocating movement, continuous slurry circulation and a standardized brass-wire test medium for laboratory evaluation of mineral abrasion behaviour.
