What Is an Automatic Specimen Grinding Machine?
The Automatic Specimen Grinding Machine prepares flat and parallel loading surfaces on concrete, rock, natural stone, ceramic and core specimens. The machine removes irregular areas from the specimen ends before compression or other mechanical testing.
Uneven loading surfaces may concentrate force in limited areas of the specimen. This condition can influence the final test result. Therefore, proper surface preparation plays an important role in obtaining consistent mechanical test results.
The automatic system maintains a controlled feed rate throughout the grinding process. As a result, it reduces operator influence and improves repeatability between specimens.
Precise and Fast Surface Grinding
The machine supports surface preparation with a flatness level of approximately 0.050 mm for suitable concrete specimens.
Its automatic feed mechanism can complete the grinding of one surface in approximately 120 seconds. This fast process helps laboratories manage large numbers of specimens more efficiently.
A high-quality diamond blade removes surface irregularities in a controlled manner. In addition, the rigid mechanical structure helps reduce unwanted vibration and cutting deviation during operation.
Enclosed Cabinet and Safe Operation
The enclosed working cabinet helps contain water, dust and small specimen particles generated during grinding.
An integrated water spray system continuously cools the diamond blade. At the same time, the water suppresses fine dust produced during the process. This arrangement helps maintain a cleaner working environment and supports consistent blade performance.
The machine also includes an emergency stop system for rapid shutdown when necessary. Its safety mechanisms help limit uncontrolled access to moving components during operation.
Modular Adapter System
Interchangeable adapters allow the machine to accommodate cube, cylindrical and core specimens.
The available accessories include adapters for Ø150 × 300 mm and Ø100 × 200 mm cylindrical specimens, Ø150 mm cube specimens, and core specimens within different diameter ranges.
This modular configuration allows laboratories to prepare several specimen geometries with the same machine. In addition, quick adapter changes help reduce preparation time between different test samples.
Easy Cleaning and Maintenance
The removable drainage filter simplifies the removal of concrete residue after grinding. Operators can also clean the internal working area and water channels more easily after each preparation cycle.
Regular cleaning helps maintain proper water circulation and prevents hardened material from affecting moving components.
Before each use, the operator should also inspect the diamond blade, specimen adapters and safety mechanisms.
Preparation of Concrete and Rock Specimens
EN 12390-1 specifies the shape, dimensions and dimensional requirements of concrete specimens used for strength testing. EN 12390-3 covers compressive strength testing of hardened concrete specimens.
For drilled concrete cores, EN 12504-1 covers the taking, examining and testing of cores from hardened concrete.
On the ASTM side, ASTM C39/C39M covers compression testing of cylindrical concrete specimens. ASTM D4543 addresses the preparation of rock core specimens before strength and deformation testing.
Reliable Automatic Specimen Preparation
The Automatic Specimen Grinding Machine combines automatic grinding, diamond cutting technology, water cooling and interchangeable adapters in one laboratory system.
As a result, laboratories can prepare flat, parallel and repeatable specimen surfaces with less operator influence. The LT-C0060 provides an efficient solution for high-volume preparation of concrete, rock and core specimens before mechanical testing.
