What Is a Soil Triaxial Test System?
The Soil Triaxial Test System is designed to evaluate the strength and deformation behaviour of soil specimens under controlled confining pressure and axial loading. Cylindrical soil samples are placed inside a triaxial cell and subjected to different stress and drainage conditions.
The Liya Test system supports Unconsolidated Undrained (UU), Consolidated Undrained (CU) and Consolidated Drained (CD) test procedures. These methods allow geotechnical laboratories to investigate soil behaviour under different field conditions.
UU, CU and CD Triaxial Tests
In an UU test, drainage and consolidation are not permitted. The specimen is subjected to confining pressure and then axially loaded at a controlled deformation rate. The results are evaluated in terms of total stress. ASTM D2850 covers this type of unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression testing for cohesive soils. The active ASTM edition is currently D2850-26.
In a CU test, the specimen is first consolidated under the selected effective pressure. Drainage is then prevented during the shearing stage. Pore-water pressure measurements allow effective-stress parameters to be evaluated. ASTM D4767 covers consolidated-undrained triaxial compression testing and its active version remains D4767-11(2020).
A CD test allows drainage during both consolidation and shearing. The loading rate must be sufficiently slow to prevent significant excess pore-water pressure. ASTM D7181 covers consolidated-drained triaxial compression testing of soils.
50 kN Servo-Controlled Loading System
The LT-E0450/TX loading frame has a maximum capacity of 50 kN.
Its servo-controlled electromechanical drive allows the operator to select test speeds between 0.001 and 51 mm/min. The system automatically stops when the load or displacement approaches the selected measurement limit.
7″ TFT Data Acquisition and Control
Load and axial displacement data are transferred through the 7-inch TFT touch-screen control unit.
Triaxial pressure and volume-change data can also be transferred to the software through the corresponding acquisition channels. The software supports data recording, calculation and graphical evaluation on a computer.
1700 kPa Triaxial Cell
The standard triaxial cell is designed for specimens with diameters of Ø38 and Ø50 mm and withstands pressures up to 1700 kPa.
The cell incorporates connections for drainage, back pressure and pore-water pressure. A larger Ø70 / Ø100 mm triaxial cell is also available for applications requiring larger specimens.
Geotechnical Testing Applications
The Soil Triaxial Test System is suitable for soil-mechanics laboratories, universities, research centres and geotechnical engineering facilities.
By combining controlled axial loading, confining pressure, pore-pressure measurement and digital data acquisition, the system provides a comprehensive platform for studying soil strength and deformation under UU, CU and CD conditions.
