Manual Marshall Compactor
STANDART: ASTM D6926, D5581, AASHTO T245
LT-AS0043 Manual Marshall Compactor
LT-AS0043/1 Marshall Compaction Hammer
LT-AS0043/2 Automatic Marshall Compaction Pedestal
The Manual Marshall Compactor applies controlled impact energy to prepare standard Marshall specimens from hot bituminous mixtures. The manually operated system provides an economical and reliable solution for laboratories with low-volume sample preparation requirements.
- Standard impact mechanism: The 4536 ± 9 g steel compaction hammer falls freely from a height of 457 ± 3 mm.
- Manual compaction: The operator moves the hammer along the vertical guide to apply controlled impacts to the specimen.
- Rigid wooden pedestal: The high-density base helps reduce unwanted vibration during compaction.
- Vertical guide system: The robust mechanism keeps the hammer moving in a controlled vertical direction.
- Modular construction: The LT-AS0043/1 Compaction Hammer and LT-AS0043/2 Compaction Pedestal can be supplied separately.
- Laboratory applications: Suitable for asphalt plants, universities, road laboratories and quality control facilities.
- No electrical supply required: Manual operation allows flexible use in different laboratory environments.
- Standards compliance: Supports Marshall specimen preparation procedures according to ASTM D6926, ASTM D5581 and AASHTO T245.

What Is a Manual Marshall Compactor?
The Manual Marshall Compactor prepares standard compacted specimens from hot bituminous mixtures. The system applies controlled impact energy to asphalt specimens used in Marshall testing. Therefore, laboratories with lower sample volumes can perform specimen preparation economically and reliably.
Compaction conditions directly influence subsequent Marshall stability and flow results. For this reason, hammer weight, drop height and number of blows are important parameters. The manual system allows the operator to control the compaction process directly.
Standard Impact Mechanism
The unit operates with a specially manufactured steel compaction hammer weighing 4536 ± 9 g. The operator raises the hammer to a height of 457 ± 3 mm. The mechanism then allows the hammer to fall freely onto the specimen.
The controlled drop height provides similar impact energy with each blow. As a result, different asphalt specimens can be prepared under comparable conditions. The robust steel construction also supports intensive laboratory use.
Vertical Guide System
The vertical guide mechanism keeps the compaction hammer moving in a straight vertical direction. This structure helps transfer the impact force consistently to the specimen surface.
Controlled movement also prevents excessive lateral displacement of the hammer during compaction. Therefore, the system supports uniform specimen preparation and easier operation.
Rigid Compaction Pedestal
The rigid wooden Compaction Pedestal provides a stable base during specimen preparation. Its high-density construction helps minimise unwanted vibration and allows the impact energy to transfer effectively to the Marshall mould.
The system also has a modular structure. Laboratories can obtain the LT-AS0043/1 Compaction Hammer or LT-AS0043/2 Compaction Pedestal separately when required. This simplifies maintenance and replacement procedures.
Laboratory Applications
The Manual Marshall Compactor is suitable for asphalt production plants, universities, highway laboratories and quality control centres. It provides a practical solution especially for laboratories preparing a limited number of Marshall specimens.
The system operates without an electrical connection. Therefore, laboratories can use it in different working environments without requiring additional power infrastructure.
Marshall Specimen Preparation According to Standards
The Manual Marshall Compactor supports specimen preparation according to ASTM D6926, ASTM D5581 and AASHTO T245. ASTM D6926 covers preparation of asphalt mixture specimens using Marshall apparatus, while AASHTO T245 addresses Marshall stability and flow testing of asphalt mixtures. The same standards are listed for Liya Test’s current Manual Marshall Compactor.
Overall, the LT-AS0043 Manual Marshall Compactor combines a standard impact mechanism, vertical guide system and rigid compaction pedestal. Therefore, laboratories can prepare consistent and reliable asphalt specimens for Marshall testing.
