Cement Shrinkage Test Set is designed to measure linear dimensional changes in hardened cement paste and mortar specimens. Analog or digital length comparators allow the initial and subsequent specimen lengths to be compared accurately. The system can be configured with 25 × 25 × 285 mm two-gang shrinkage moulds or 40 × 40 × 160 mm three-gang prism moulds, together with steel inserts and reference rods for repeatable measurements.

Cement Shrinkage Test Set for Length Change Measurement
The Cement Shrinkage Test Set is designed to measure linear dimensional changes in hardened cement paste and mortar specimens. The laboratory records an initial specimen length and repeats the measurement after specified curing or conditioning periods. The difference between these readings indicates shrinkage or expansion behaviour.
Accurate dimensional-change testing helps laboratories compare different binders, aggregates and mortar formulations under controlled conditions.
Analog and Digital Measurement Options
Liya Test offers both analog and digital configurations. The LT-G8000 Analog Dial Indicator provides a 10 mm measuring range with 0.01 mm readability.
The LT-G8009 Digital Dial Indicator provides a 12.7 mm measuring range with 0.001 mm resolution. Its finer resolution makes small dimensional changes easier to monitor.
Both indicators can be used with the LT-A0048 Length Comparator, which provides a rigid measuring frame for repeatable specimen positioning.
Two-Gang Cement Shrinkage Mould
The LT-CE0038 Cement Shrinkage Mould prepares two specimens measuring 25 × 25 × 285 mm.
Steel inserts are installed at the ends of the specimens during moulding. These inserts create stable contact points for subsequent comparator measurements.
The corresponding 305 mm reference rod allows the operator to check the comparator before measuring a specimen series.
40 × 40 × 160 mm Prism Option
The system can also be configured with the LT-CE0035/S Three Gang Mould for 40 × 40 × 160 mm mortar prisms.
This mould prepares three specimens from the same batch. Steel inserts and the 160 mm reference rod are available for this configuration.
Length Change Measurement
Before testing, the operator checks the comparator with the appropriate reference rod. The specimen is then placed in the measuring frame and the initial reading is recorded.
After the specified curing, drying or conditioning period, the specimen is measured again. Comparing the readings allows the laboratory to determine dimensional change over time.
Consistent specimen positioning and reference checks are important because the measured changes can be very small.
Standards for Shrinkage and Expansion Testing
EN 12617-4:2002 covers shrinkage and expansion due to moisture-content changes in hydraulic mortars and concretes and remains current.
ASTM C490/C490M-21 defines the apparatus commonly used to prepare and measure hardened cement paste, mortar and concrete specimens for length-change testing.
ASTM C151/C151M-23 addresses autoclave expansion of hydraulic cement paste, while EN 1367-4:2008 covers drying shrinkage associated with aggregates.
As a result, the Cement Shrinkage Test Set combines precise length measurement, interchangeable mould configurations and reference equipment for reliable and repeatable dimensional-change testing.
