    Description

What Is a Semi-Automatic Compression Tester?

The Semi-Automatic Compression Tester is designed to determine the compressive strength of concrete cubes, cylinders and similar specimens. The machine applies a controlled compressive load while allowing the operator to monitor load development and the maximum force reached during the test.

LİYA Test offers several load-frame capacities for different testing requirements. The range includes 600, 1500, 2000 and 3000 kN configurations. The current product listing includes EN and ASTM versions of the 1500, 2000 and 3000 kN models.

    Two-Stage Hydraulic Pump System

The Semi-Automatic Concrete Compression Testing Machine uses a two-stage hydraulic pump system.

During the first stage, a high-flow, low-pressure gear pump moves the piston rapidly toward the specimen. This rapid approach reduces the preparation time between consecutive tests.

Once the specimen contacts the upper platen, the rapid approach ends. The high-pressure radial piston pump then supplies the pressure required for the actual compression test.

Loading continues at the rate selected by the operator. When the specimen fails, the system automatically stops the loading process.

This operating principle supports efficient testing when laboratories need to perform multiple compression tests during the same working period.

    Durable Compression Platens

The lower platen and ball-seated upper platen are manufactured from high-quality hardened steel. Their surfaces are finished to provide stable contact with the concrete specimen.

The platen surface roughness is 3.2 µm or less.

Centering marks on the lower platen help the operator position common cube and cylinder specimens correctly before testing.

Distance pieces can also be inserted to reduce the vertical clearance between the upper and lower platens.

    Adjustable Testing Configuration

Different platen and accessory configurations allow the machine to accommodate various specimen types.

With the appropriate equipment, the system can test concrete cubes, cylinders, cores and similar compression specimens.

Optional sliding block platens can also extend the application range to concrete blocks, bricks and similar masonry products. These assemblies must be installed according to the required machine configuration.

    Digital Load Monitoring

The Digital Readout Unit displays the peak load and load variation during the test.

Its functions support straightforward monitoring during routine concrete compression testing. Multi-point calibration capability also helps maintain measurement performance across the operating range.

An optional High-Precision Pressure Transducer can further extend the measurement capability of the system.

The current LİYA product description states that this option can improve Class 1 calibration performance over a wider portion of the machine capacity.

    Hydraulic Safety System

The hydraulic power pack includes a maximum pressure valve to protect the system against excessive loading.

A limit switch restricts piston travel and helps prevent operation beyond the designed stroke. The maximum piston stroke is 50 mm.

The system also includes an emergency stop button and front and rear protective doors to support safer operation during specimen failure.

    420 Bar Hydraulic Working Pressure

The hydraulic power unit is designed to transfer oil to the loading piston in a controlled manner.

The maximum system operating pressure is 420 bar. The oil tank provides the hydraulic volume required during testing and piston movement.

The system also allows the operator to observe the oil level and temperature.

    EN and ASTM Configurations

EN models are supplied with compression platens suitable for the relevant EN test configuration.

ASTM models use the appropriate platen arrangement for ASTM concrete compression testing.

LİYA’s current product page lists the series against ASTM C39, ISO EN 7500 and EN 12390-4.

    Reliable Concrete Compression Testing

The Semi-Automatic Compression Tester combines high-capacity load frames, a two-stage hydraulic system, hardened compression platens and digital load monitoring.

Its semi-automatic operation reduces the time required for piston approach while allowing the operator to control the actual loading stage.

With 1500, 2000 and 3000 kN listed EN/ASTM models, together with additional frame configurations, the system provides a flexible solution for routine concrete compressive strength testing in construction-material laboratories.
