What Is a Profometer Concrete Covermeter?
The Profometer Concrete Covermeter provides non-destructive inspection of reinforcement embedded in concrete structures. The system determines the location and orientation of reinforcing bars, measures concrete cover depth and supports rebar diameter estimation.
This allows engineers and technicians to investigate reinforced concrete without damaging the surface.
The Profometer PM-600 Series is particularly useful before drilling, cutting and core sampling. It can also support reinforcement mapping and structural assessment of existing concrete elements.
Pulse Induction Measurement Technology
The Profometer PM-600 Series uses the pulse induction principle to detect reinforcement inside concrete.
The Universal Probe is moved across the concrete surface while the instrument detects changes caused by embedded steel reinforcement. Measurement information is displayed graphically on the touchscreen, allowing the operator to follow reinforcement positions directly in the field.
The system provides a concrete cover measurement range of up to 185 mm.
Depending on the reinforcement arrangement and measurement conditions, cover measurement accuracy ranges approximately from ±1 mm to ±4 mm.
Rebar Diameter Estimation
In addition to locating reinforcement and measuring cover depth, the Profometer Concrete Covermeter can estimate rebar diameter.
For suitable isolated reinforcing bars, the system can evaluate diameters up to approximately 40 mm when the concrete cover is within the specified measurement range for diameter assessment.
The stated diameter measurement accuracy can reach approximately ±2 mm under suitable conditions.
Closely spaced bars, multiple reinforcement layers and nearby metallic elements may influence the result. Therefore, the operator should consider the actual reinforcement arrangement during interpretation.
7-Inch Color Touchscreen
The instrument features a 7-inch color touchscreen with 800 × 480 pixel resolution.
Measurement values, graphical information and test settings can be viewed directly on the display. This interface allows users to access measurement functions without relying on a separate computer during routine field inspections.
The touchscreen unit provides IP54 protection, supporting use in demanding site environments.
Universal Probe for Reinforcement Detection
The Universal Probe combines scanning functionality with an integrated spot probe.
This configuration helps the operator investigate areas containing congested reinforcement or locations where precise positioning is required.
The probe provides IP67 protection, offering increased resistance to dust and water exposure during field use.
A removable scanning trolley supports controlled movement across the concrete surface and simplifies systematic reinforcement mapping.
Data Storage and Profometer Link Software
The Profometer PM-600 Series includes 8 GB of internal memory for storing inspection data.
Recorded measurements can be transferred to a computer using Profometer Link software. Users can review stored results, manage measurement files and export data for further analysis or reporting.
This digital workflow is particularly useful during large structural surveys involving many measurement points.
Long Battery Life for Field Inspection
The system provides more than 8 hours of operating time under standard working conditions.
This battery capacity supports extended site inspections without frequent charging. Combined with the portable probe and touchscreen unit, the system provides a practical solution for laboratory and field applications.
Concrete Cover and Rebar Assessment
Concrete cover plays an important role in reinforced concrete structures because it protects reinforcement from external exposure and provides the required separation between steel and the surrounding environment.
The Profometer Concrete Covermeter allows engineers to measure this cover without opening or damaging the concrete.
It can also help identify reinforcement before coring or drilling operations. As a result, the operator can reduce the risk of accidentally cutting through reinforcing bars.
Use with BS 1881 Part 204
BS 1881 Part 204 provides recommendations for the use of electromagnetic covermeters when locating reinforcement and evaluating concrete cover.
The Profometer PM-600 Series supports this type of non-destructive reinforcement inspection through its pulse induction measurement system.
DIN 1045 is also referenced on the product page in relation to reinforced concrete applications.
Professional Reinforcement Inspection
The Profometer Concrete Covermeter combines rebar detection, concrete cover measurement, diameter estimation, graphical data display and digital data management in one professional inspection system.
With a measurement range of up to 185 mm, a high-resolution touchscreen and IP67 Universal Probe, the PM-600 Series supports demanding structural inspection applications.
As a result, engineers and laboratory teams can inspect reinforcement layout and concrete cover quickly, systematically and without damaging the structure.
