What Is an Automatic Soil Compactor?<\/h2>\n

The Automatic Soil Compactor<\/strong> is a laboratory machine designed to compact soil specimens using controlled and repeatable impact energy. The LT-S0075<\/strong> supports the preparation of specimens for Standard Proctor, Modified Proctor and CBR applications<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During operation, the rammer is raised to a predetermined height and released onto the soil specimen. The mould table rotates between blows so that the impact points are distributed across the specimen surface. This arrangement reduces operator-dependent variations associated with manual compaction.<\/p>\n

Standard and Modified Proctor Compaction<\/h2>\n

ASTM D698-12(2021)<\/strong> covers laboratory compaction using standard effort. The method uses a 5.50 lbf \/ approximately 2.5 kg rammer<\/strong> dropped from 305 mm<\/strong> to establish the relationship between moulding water content and dry unit weight.<\/p>\n

For higher compaction energy, ASTM D1557-12(2021)<\/strong> uses approximately 4.5 kg rammer weight<\/strong> and a 457 mm drop height<\/strong>. The standard is commonly referred to as the Modified Proctor compaction method.<\/p>\n

The LT-S0075 allows the rammer configuration to be adjusted according to the selected procedure.<\/p>\n

Adjustable Rammer and Drop Height<\/h2>\n

For EN\/BS applications, the machine can use a \u00d850 mm circular rammer face<\/strong> with 300 or 450 mm<\/strong> drop heights.<\/p>\n

For ASTM applications, a \u00d850.8 mm (2 in) rammer face<\/strong> can be used with 305 or 457 mm<\/strong> drop heights. Rammer weight can be configured at approximately 2.5 kg or 4.5 kg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

These settings allow a single machine to support different laboratory compaction procedures.<\/p>\n

Programmable Digital Blow Counter<\/h2>\n

The programmable digital counter allows the operator to enter the required number of blows for each layer before starting the compaction cycle.<\/p>\n

The machine automatically counts each impact and stops when the programmed number is reached. This eliminates manual blow counting and helps apply the same compaction sequence to successive specimens.<\/p>\n

Rotating Mould Table<\/h2>\n

The rigid lower table rotates the mould at regular intervals. As a result, the rammer does not repeatedly strike the same location.<\/p>\n

For larger Modified Proctor and CBR moulds, the system can distribute impacts along inner and outer paths to provide more uniform coverage across the specimen surface. L\u0130YA specifically describes this rotating-table arrangement for the LT-S0075.<\/p>\n

EN and CBR Applications<\/h2>\n

BS EN 13286-2:2010<\/strong> covers Proctor compaction for unbound and hydraulically bound mixtures and remains current, although it is presently under review.<\/p>\n

BS EN 13286-47:2021<\/strong> covers CBR, Immediate Bearing Index and linear swelling testing. The LT-S0075 does not perform the CBR penetration test itself; it supports the preparation of compacted CBR specimens<\/strong> used in that testing process.<\/p>\n

Overall, the Automatic Soil Compactor<\/strong> combines programmable blow control, adjustable rammer settings and automatic mould rotation to provide efficient and repeatable preparation of Proctor and CBR soil specimens.<\/p>\n
