What Is an Asphalt Binder Analyser?<\/h2>\n

The Asphalt Binder Analyser (ABA)<\/strong> determines the binder content of asphalt mixtures using the ignition method. The system combines a high-temperature furnace with an integrated weighing system that continuously monitors sample mass during combustion.<\/p>\n

As the bituminous binder burns away, the instrument records the reduction in specimen weight. At the end of the test, the system automatically calculates the binder content as a percentage of the asphalt mixture.<\/p>\n

This method eliminates the need for solvent extraction during binder determination and provides an efficient solution for asphalt production and quality control laboratories.<\/p>\n

Precise Weighing and Automatic Calculation<\/h2>\n

The integrated weighing system provides a resolution of 0.1 g<\/strong> and a maximum weighing capacity of 10,000 g<\/strong>. This allows the instrument to monitor relatively small changes in mass throughout the ignition process.<\/p>\n

The LT-AS0300 can test asphalt specimens weighing up to approximately 3,000 g<\/strong>. The automatic calculation system determines the final sample mass and binder percentage once the test is complete.<\/p>\n

An adjustable aggregate correction factor can also be entered to compensate for mass changes that may occur in specific aggregate types during ignition.<\/p>\n

Controlled Ignition Furnace<\/h2>\n

The main furnace operates at temperatures up to approximately 540 \u00b0C<\/strong> according to the selected test procedure. Controlled heating removes the asphalt binder from the aggregate through ignition.<\/p>\n

The remaining aggregate can subsequently be evaluated for additional laboratory analyses where permitted by the applicable test method. ASTM D6307 covers determination of asphalt content by ignition and notes that the remaining aggregate may be used for gradation analysis, although some aggregates may experience particle degradation.<\/p>\n

High-Temperature Afterburner<\/h2>\n

The system incorporates a separate high-temperature afterburner capable of operating at approximately 950 \u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Exhaust gases produced during binder combustion pass through this additional high-temperature zone. This design supports more complete combustion and helps reduce undesirable fumes during laboratory operation.<\/p>\n

The main furnace and afterburner temperatures are controlled independently through closed-loop temperature regulation.<\/p>\n

Touchscreen Control and Data Management<\/h2>\n

A colour TFT touchscreen<\/strong> provides access to operating parameters, temperature information and test data. The multilingual interface simplifies operation for different laboratory personnel.<\/p>\n

The software automatically stores and processes measurements throughout the test. Test results can also be generated in printed format using the integrated thermal printer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Liya Test states that the system supports automatic calculation of final sample weight and binder percentage together with configurable aggregate correction factors.<\/p>\n

Complete Test Configuration<\/h2>\n

The Asphalt Binder Analyser is supplied with two sets of sample baskets<\/strong>. The baskets allow the asphalt mixture to be positioned securely inside the furnace during ignition.<\/p>\n

The standard configuration also includes handling equipment for working with the hot baskets after the test. This helps laboratories organise specimen loading, combustion and cooling operations efficiently.<\/p>\n

Binder Content Testing According to Standards<\/h2>\n

The LT-AS0300 Asphalt Binder Analyser<\/strong> supports binder-content determination according to AASHTO T308, ASTM D6307, EN 12697-39 and GOST R 58401.19-2019<\/strong>. Liya\u2019s existing page still shows older editions such as AASHTO T308-10, ASTM D6307-10 and EN 12697-39:2012.<\/p>\n

For the new website, using the standard numbers without outdated edition years is cleaner. EN 12697-39:2020<\/strong> superseded the 2012 edition, ASTM D6307-19<\/strong> is currently active, and AASHTO T308-25<\/strong> is the latest listed edition.<\/p>\n

Overall, the Asphalt Binder Analyser<\/strong> combines precise weighing, automatic calculation, controlled ignition and high-temperature exhaust treatment. Therefore, asphalt producers, road laboratories, universities and quality control facilities can determine binder content quickly and repeatably.<\/p>\n
