What Is a Ring and Ball Test Set?<\/h2>\n

The Ring and Ball Test Set<\/strong> determines the softening point of bitumen and bituminous binders. The test evaluates the temperature at which a prepared bituminous specimen reaches a specified degree of softness under standard conditions.<\/p>\n

Softening point is an important property in asphalt and bitumen quality control. It helps laboratories compare different binders and evaluate their behaviour as temperature increases.<\/p>\n

The Liya Test LT-AS0036 Ring and Ball Test Set<\/strong> is supplied as a complete laboratory configuration with a heated magnetic stirrer, steel balls, centering guides, brass rings, glass beaker and thermometer.<\/p>\n

Controlled Heating and Stirring<\/h2>\n

The LT-G0246 Analog Hot Plate with Magnetic Stirrer<\/strong> heats the test bath while continuously circulating the liquid.<\/p>\n

Continuous stirring helps distribute heat throughout the glass beaker. This reduces local temperature differences and supports more consistent test conditions around both specimens.<\/p>\n

The operator controls the heating process according to the applicable test method. Unlike the LT-AS0037 automatic model, LT-AS0036 does not use automatic optical detection or integrated cooling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Steel Balls and Centering Guides<\/h2>\n

The set includes two steel balls<\/strong> used during the softening point test. Each ball is positioned above a prepared specimen using a centering guide.<\/p>\n

The guides keep the balls correctly aligned with the brass rings. As temperature increases, the bituminous specimens soften gradually under the weight of the steel balls.<\/p>\n

Correct positioning is important for repeatable testing and consistent interpretation of the softening point.<\/p>\n

Brass Rings and Glass Beaker<\/h2>\n

The system includes two brass rings<\/strong> for preparing the bituminous specimens. The rings provide the standard specimen geometry required for the ring and ball procedure.<\/p>\n

A 600 ml glass beaker<\/strong> contains the test bath. Its transparent construction allows the operator to observe the specimens throughout the heating process.<\/p>\n

Temperature Measurement<\/h2>\n

The supplied glass thermometer<\/strong> measures temperatures up to approximately 110 \u00b0C<\/strong>. The operator monitors the bath temperature continuously during the test.<\/p>\n

Accurate temperature observation is essential because the reported softening point corresponds directly to the temperature at the specified specimen deformation condition.<\/p>\n

Complete Laboratory Test Set<\/h2>\n

The LT-AS0036 Ring and Ball Test Set<\/strong> is supplied with the main components needed for routine softening point testing:<\/p>\n

analog heated magnetic stirrer, steel balls, ball centering guides, brass rings, 600 ml glass beaker and glass thermometer. Liya\u2019s current product page lists this same configuration.<\/p>\n

Testing According to EN 1427 and ASTM D36<\/h2>\n

The Ring and Ball Test Set supports softening point determination according to TS EN 1427, ASTM D36 and AASHTO T53<\/strong>. These standards cover the ring and ball method for evaluating the softening characteristics of bituminous materials. Liya Test lists all three standards for LT-AS0036.<\/p>\n
