What Is a Methylene Blue Test Set?<\/h1>\n

The Methylene Blue Test Set<\/strong> is designed to determine the methylene blue value of fine aggregates and all-in aggregates. The test evaluates the 0\/2 mm aggregate fraction<\/strong> and provides information about the presence of clay-type and other active fine particles.<\/p>\n

The method is based on the adsorption of methylene blue by fine particles suspended in water. As methylene blue solution is added to the sample, active particles adsorb the dye. The endpoint is then checked using the specified filter paper procedure.<\/p>\n

The current EN 933-9:2022<\/strong> standard defines the reference method for determining the methylene blue value of the 0\/2 mm fraction<\/strong> of fine or all-in aggregates.<\/p>\n

400\/600 r.p.m. High-Speed Agitator<\/h2>\n

The set includes a high-speed agitator with 400 and 600 r.p.m. operating speeds<\/strong>. Controlled agitation keeps the aggregate suspension moving throughout the test.<\/p>\n

This is important because the methylene blue solution must interact uniformly with the fine particles in the sample. Consistent mixing also helps laboratories reproduce similar test conditions during repeated analyses.<\/p>\n

The operator selects the required mixing speed according to the test procedure and continues agitation while the methylene blue solution is added.<\/p>\n

Controlled Titration System<\/h2>\n

A 50 ml glass burette<\/strong> is included for controlled addition of the methylene blue solution. The set also contains the required burette holder, stand and clamp.<\/p>\n

During the test, the solution is added gradually to the aggregate suspension. After selected additions, a drop of the suspension is placed on the filter paper.<\/p>\n

The appearance of the stain is used to evaluate whether the test endpoint has been reached. This procedure provides a practical visual method for monitoring methylene blue adsorption.<\/p>\n

Complete Laboratory Test Arrangement<\/h2>\n

The set includes a 2000 ml handled plastic beaker<\/strong> and a glass stirring rod for sample preparation. It is also supplied with 100 g of methylene blue powder<\/strong>, 500 g of kaolinite<\/strong> and 100 pieces of \u00d8125 mm filter paper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This complete configuration allows the laboratory to prepare the test arrangement without sourcing the main test accessories separately.<\/p>\n

Methylene Blue Value of Fine Aggregates<\/h2>\n

The methylene blue value is particularly useful when assessing fine aggregate fractions containing clay minerals or other highly adsorptive fines.<\/p>\n

A higher result generally indicates a greater quantity or activity of methylene-blue-adsorbing fine material. However, the value should always be interpreted together with the relevant aggregate specification and project requirements.<\/p>\n

The test is therefore commonly used in aggregate production, concrete laboratories and construction-material quality-control applications.<\/p>\n

EN 933-9 Methylene Blue Test<\/h2>\n

EN 933-9:2022<\/strong> is the current European method for the assessment of fines by the methylene blue test. BSI lists the 2022 edition as the current release.<\/p>\n

The LT-A0075 Methylene Blue Test Set<\/strong> combines controlled agitation, titration equipment and the required test consumables in one laboratory system. It therefore provides a practical and repeatable solution for determining the methylene blue value of aggregate fines.<\/p>\n
