What Is a Quantab Chloride Titrator?<\/h1>\n

The Quantab Chloride Titrator<\/strong> is a disposable test-strip system designed for rapid quantitative determination of chloride concentration. It is suitable for screening prepared extracts from fine aggregates, soils and other aqueous samples<\/strong> where chloride content needs to be checked quickly.<\/p>\n

Unlike conventional laboratory titration, the method does not require burettes, electrical instruments or extensive preparation. The user immerses the strip into the prepared liquid sample. The sample rises through the strip and produces a measurable reaction. The resulting reading is then interpreted using the scale supplied with the test system.<\/p>\n

This makes the method particularly useful for field testing, preliminary screening and routine quality-control checks<\/strong>. Hach describes QuanTab chloride strips as a quick quantitative method suitable for both field and laboratory applications.<\/p>\n

Type 1175 Low-Range Chloride Testing<\/h2>\n

Type 1175<\/strong> is intended for samples containing relatively low chloride concentrations.<\/p>\n

Its measurement range is 30\u2013600 mg\/L Cl\u207b<\/strong>. The corresponding sodium chloride range is approximately 0.005\u20130.1% NaCl<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This option is suitable when small differences in chloride concentration need to be identified. Each package contains 40 disposable test strips<\/strong>. Hach currently publishes the same 30\u2013600 mg\/L Cl\u207b measurement range for its low-range QuanTab chloride strips.<\/p>\n

Type 1176 High-Range Chloride Testing<\/h2>\n

Type 1176<\/strong> is intended for samples with higher chloride concentrations.<\/p>\n

The working range is 300\u20136000 mg\/L Cl\u207b<\/strong>, corresponding to approximately 0.05\u20131.0% NaCl<\/strong>. This wider range allows samples with substantially higher chloride levels to be tested without using the low-range strip outside its intended measurement interval.<\/p>\n

The high-range version is also supplied in packs of 40 test strips<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Simple Field and Laboratory Procedure<\/h2>\n

The prepared liquid sample is placed in a clean container. The appropriate Quantab strip is then inserted into the solution according to the test instructions.<\/p>\n

After the reaction has developed, the user reads the result from the calibrated scale. The selected conversion information is then used to determine chloride concentration.<\/p>\n

Because the strips are disposable, there is little equipment to clean after each measurement. This feature is useful when several samples need to be screened during the same working day.<\/p>\n

Chloride Testing of Aggregates and Soils<\/h2>\n

Chloride determination is important in construction-material testing because soluble chlorides can influence the suitability of aggregates and soils for certain engineering applications.<\/p>\n

BS 812-117:1988<\/strong> specifically covered determination of water-soluble chloride salts in aggregates<\/strong>. However, this standard has been withdrawn and was superseded by the EN 1744-1 series.<\/p>\n

For soils, the current BS 1377-3:2018+A1:2021<\/strong> includes procedures for determining both water-soluble and acid-soluble chloride content<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Quantab Chloride Titrator<\/strong> therefore provides a compact and rapid screening solution for chloride measurements where fast field or laboratory evaluation is required.<\/p>\n
