What Is a Concrete Curing Tank?<\/h1>\n

The Concrete Curing Tank<\/strong> provides a controlled water environment for concrete cube and cylinder specimens before strength testing. The system helps prevent moisture loss while maintaining stable curing conditions for different specimens.<\/p>\n

Proper curing directly influences the reliability of concrete test results. If a specimen loses moisture at an early age, cement hydration may slow down. As a result, the measured strength may not represent the expected concrete performance. Therefore, laboratories should monitor both water temperature and water level throughout the curing period.<\/p>\n

Different Materials and Capacities<\/h2>\n

L\u0130YA Test offers polyethylene, painted metal and stainless-steel curing tanks.<\/p>\n

The LT-C0110<\/strong> is the largest model. It can accommodate up to 390 \u00d7 150 mm cube specimens<\/strong> or 195 \u00d7 150 \u00d7 300 mm cylinders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The LT-C0111<\/strong> provides capacity for 220 cubes or 110 cylinders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The LT-C0112 metal model<\/strong> and LT-C0113 stainless-steel model<\/strong> each accommodate up to 135 cubes or 67 cylinders<\/strong>. Therefore, laboratories can select a tank according to their daily specimen volume and preferred construction material.<\/p>\n

Temperature Control and Water Circulation<\/h2>\n

A thermostatically controlled heater maintains the water temperature at approximately 21 \u00b0C<\/strong>. The system provides approximately \u00b12 \u00b0C temperature control<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition, a submersible circulation pump keeps the water moving throughout the tank. This circulation helps reduce temperature differences between different areas of the curing environment.<\/p>\n

A metal grid at the bottom keeps specimens raised above the tank base. As a result, water can circulate beneath the specimens more easily.<\/p>\n

How Are Concrete Specimens Cured?<\/h2>\n

First, the operator fills the tank with clean water. The heating and circulation systems are then activated.<\/p>\n

Once the water reaches the required temperature, demoulded concrete specimens are placed inside the tank. Enough space should remain between the specimens to allow free water circulation.<\/p>\n

The water level must completely cover all specimens. In addition, the laboratory should check and record the water temperature and level at regular intervals.<\/p>\n

When the required curing period is complete, the specimens can be removed and prepared for the specified strength test.<\/p>\n

Curing According to Test Standards<\/h2>\n

EN 12390-2<\/strong> covers the preparation and curing of concrete specimens intended for strength testing.<\/p>\n

ASTM C31\/C31M<\/strong> addresses making and curing concrete test specimens in the field, while ASTM C192\/C192M<\/strong> covers laboratory-made concrete specimens.<\/p>\n

In addition, ASTM C511<\/strong> specifies requirements for moist rooms, moist cabinets and water storage tanks used for curing hydraulic-cement concrete specimens.<\/p>\n
