What Is a V-Funnel Test Set?<\/h1>\n

The V-Funnel Test Set<\/strong> determines the flow time of self-compacting concrete as it discharges under its own weight. During the test, the operator fills the funnel with fresh concrete. The bottom gate is then opened, and the discharge time is measured until the funnel becomes empty.<\/p>\n

The recorded time provides useful information about the flow behaviour of the concrete. A shorter discharge time may indicate a more fluid mixture. In contrast, a longer time may indicate higher viscosity. However, laboratories should evaluate the result together with the mix design and other fresh concrete tests.<\/p>\n

Stainless-Steel Funnel Construction<\/h2>\n

The funnel features a stainless-steel construction<\/strong> suitable for routine laboratory use. Its smooth internal surface helps the concrete move consistently through the funnel. In addition, easy access to the internal surfaces simplifies cleaning between tests.<\/p>\n

A rigid support stand holds the funnel in a vertical position throughout the procedure. Therefore, the operator can maintain a consistent test arrangement for repeated measurements.<\/p>\n

The LT-C0055<\/strong> has overall dimensions of 55 \u00d7 30 \u00d7 104 cm<\/strong> and an approximate weight of 18 kg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

How Is the V-Funnel Test Performed?<\/h2>\n

First, the operator cleans and wets the internal surface of the funnel. Next, the bottom gate is closed and the prepared concrete sample is placed into the funnel.<\/p>\n

The operator then levels the concrete at the top. At the same moment the bottom gate opens, the timer starts. When the concrete has completely discharged, the operator stops the timer and records the result in seconds.<\/p>\n

After each test, the funnel should be cleaned thoroughly. Hardened concrete or remaining material on the internal surface may influence subsequent flow-time measurements.<\/p>\n

Evaluation of Flow Behaviour<\/h2>\n

The V-funnel time helps laboratories compare the viscosity-related flow behaviour of self-compacting concrete<\/strong>. However, this test alone does not describe every aspect of SCC workability.<\/p>\n

For a more complete evaluation, laboratories may combine the result with slump-flow, L-box or segregation-resistance tests. In this way, filling ability, passing ability and segregation behaviour can be assessed together.<\/p>\n

Testing According to EN 12350-9<\/h2>\n

EN 12350-9<\/strong> describes the V-funnel method for determining the flow time of self-compacting concrete. The method applies to suitable SCC mixtures and uses the discharge time as the primary test result.<\/p>\n

The test is not suitable for concrete containing aggregate with a maximum size greater than 22.4 mm<\/strong>. Therefore, the operator should check the concrete composition before selecting this test method.<\/p>\n

As a result, the V-Funnel Test Set<\/strong> provides a practical solution for evaluating the flow behaviour of self-compacting concrete. Its stainless-steel construction, rigid support stand and straightforward test procedure support consistent and efficient fresh-concrete testing in laboratory applications.<\/p>\n
